Ultrasound-guided Lateral Interbody Fusion (US-LIF™ )

Dr. Mitchell Hardenbrook has developed a revolutionary technique that utilizes intra-operative ultrasound to navigate the psoas muscle during lateral fusion surgery. Previous techniques could only identify nerves with motor function resulting in possible injury to nerves. US-LIF provides a means of identifying not only motor AND sensory nerves but also other important structures such as blood vessels, internal organs, and morphology of the bone and disc space in real-time. This allows for the performance of the lateral fusion with higher safety and precision. Dr. Hardenbrook will be presenting his revolutionary technique at the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery in May, 2021 in Miami.
